#8: The Roaring 20s

“The world only exists in your eyes. You can make it as big or as small as you want” - F. Scott Fitzgerald

When I was young, the 1920s sounded like it was hundreds of years ago. Now that we have reached another set of 20s I wonder if they will seem as outdated in another hundred years. When you think about it though, there really isn’t much difference:

The 1920s were a time of hope, prosperity, and cultural change. With the economy and the stock market booming, people were spending money on entertainment and consumer goods, and women were forging ahead and making great progress, finally getting the right to vote in 1920. People had more money and spent freely. Thanks to credit, more cars were hitting the road every day. Music and dancing were the nighttime activity of choice thanks to the new Jazz age. It all sounds like what we are doing now. Except back then, self-care was unheard of. If it was happening, it was kept private.

So now that we are once again roaring in the new 20s, women are not only making new strides but are being elected to government offices in record numbers, people are spending, the economy is doing well, people are spending at lightning speed (hopefully the stock market won’t crash, and if it does we have most of the decade to watch for it), and new industries are cropping up every day. One of the biggest industries? Self care.

When I started working at BiomeTech I had never heard the term nutraceutical but it made total sense to me. I knew of the microbiome but only superficially. Having BiomeTech team break it down for me was life changing. I already ate a clean diet (or thought I did) and I didn’t drink coffee or consume dairy but I did other things that were not healthy and I didn’t know it.

After a few weeks I noticed subtle changes. When people asked me what I was doing differently, I told them. I shared everything I was learning and noticed that all were receptive. Not one person thought it was nonsense or a fad. People see results and they start to believe that there are other methods to get healthy. Plus it’s not a quick fix as most fads rarely are.

As we head into the uncharted waters of a pandemic (Coronavirus) it is imperative that we take self care seriously. What can we do? Up our vitamin C and D, make sure we are armed with the anti-virals we need to stay healthy. I have my family on a steady dose of Silver and AVH. We need our bodies fighting as hard as they can fight right now. We are staying away from large crowds, power washing our hands and eating clean. Drinking water and clearing your nasal passages is a huge way to combat a coronavirus. While there is no cure, there are so many ways to keep a viral infection at bay so please, take care of yourself! If you can’t find any hand sanitizer you can make your own! All you need is some isopropyl alcohol, aloe vera and any essential oil (I love tea tree foil or this!)

Recipe:

  • 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel
  • 2/3 cup of isopropyl alcohol
  • 8-10 drops of essential oil, optional (such as vanilla, tea tree, lavender, grapefruit, peppermint, etc.)
  • Mix ingredients.

I’m hoping that when people look back on the 2020s they will see a time of great change and progress. A time where people gained control of their lives and realized that the traditional way of doing things isn’t the only option. That just because a company spends billions on advertising doesn’t mean it will work. I believe (especially now) that when people are willing to put in everything they have because they truly believe they can change the way we live we have to give them a chance.

What I’ve learned from the BiomeTech community in the short time I have been here is that we all strive to better each other and ourselves. We are all bringing this experience to everyone we meet because it works. Because we feel better. And when we feel better, we do better. When we do better we can accomplish great things.

Welcome to the Healing 20s!
